SYNOPSIS OF MARYAMAH KARPOV NOVEL
Andrea Hirata is very proper to be given many thumbs because of his professionally in writing novels (Tetralogy Rainbow Troops). One of the novels is Maryamah Karpov. My first impression after reading is that Andrea Hirata is very eligible to be one of the best authors. In Maryamah Kapov, he told Ikal (himself) when he completed his thesis in Sorbonne University until his life after a year graduate from his study. His typical style in delivering the story makes the reader curious about the plot of the story. This novel contains hilarious, emotion, dramatic and tragic stories of life of Ikal and those that exist in the environment around him.
In this last session of Rainbow Troops Tetralogy, he tells about the craziness exist in his environment. In this story he also tells about the love struggle done by Ikal. Love is crazy. May be this sentence can represent the story in this novel. He struggled hard to find Aling, his first love after more than ten years separated each other. Well, after finishing his master degree in Sorbonne University of France, Ikal (Andrea Hirata) come back to his birth land, Belitong. A Longing. It is a reason of his return. He misses his parents, Arai (his cousin), Belitong society, Belitong nature, and more than them, he misses his girl of the dream, Aling.
In the beginning of the story he tells the condition of his land. It is still same with the condition when he leave it. Belitong at that time was visited by a dentist from Jakarta. Because of her professionally, she is available to devote herself to practice in Belitong. However, because of the conservatism of the society, they prefer to go to the shaman (dukun) when they got sickness.
Then, it’s told In the story that there were two corpses found in the river. That tragedy makes the society, especially Ikal, because they have butterfly tattoo like what Aling have. Therefore, he desires to look for her in Betuan Island (the island full of bandits. He was helped by his friends of rainboe troops. They creat a ship named “Mimpi-mimpi Lintang”. After many places visted, finally he can find Aling, his first love.

Maryamah Kapov gives us motivation to us to be dare to dream and reach the dream. Because where there is a will, there is a way.
